First of all, it is worth considering the material. The easiest way is to buy ready-made cardboard filters that need to be folded properly. The brand or manufacturer does not matter much - most of them are of high enough quality. 💯

☝🏽 Anything thicker than plain paper but thinner than a book cover will work as an improvised material. The best options are:

• cardboard from a pack of cigarettes ✅

• business cards (only enough for two filters) ✅

• binder folder covers ✅

In general, you just need to see what fits the density and thickness you want and use it.

1️⃣ The first type is the simplest: cardboard twisted in a spiral. To keep the filter tight and prevent it from unraveling, it must be wrapped on both sides. I.e. first wrap, starting from one end (here it will be tightly twisted, with a small diameter), and then from the opposite end in the opposite direction. Then there will be a strong twist on the outside that will hold the whole structure. A small drawback is that if such a filter is twisted in an unsophisticated way, instead of a spiral, it turns into a tube with a rather large hole in the center.

2️⃣ The second most common option - with an accordion inside. Before you start twisting it, you need to make five or six folds 1-2 mm wide inside. The width of these folds determines the thickness of the future filter, it should be chosen based on experience, so practice.

Those who have already gained enough experience make real origami from cardboard! You can see a heart, a star or even a cannabis leaf on the back of the filter. It's probably not for every day, but it's always nice to achieve perfection. Even with such a seemingly simple task :)
